Porto Airport (OPO)

Porto Airport
Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport or simply Porto Airport (formerly Pedras Rubras Airport) is an international airport near Porto (Oporto), Portugal. It is located at 11 kilometers northwest of the Clérigos Tower in the center of Porto, in the municipalities of Maia, Matosinhos and Vila do Conde. The airport is currently the second-busiest in the country, based on aircraft operations; and the second-busiest in passengers, based on Aeroportos de Portugal traffic statistics, after Lisbon Airport and before Faro Airport. The airport is a base for easyJet, Ryanair, TAP Air Portugal and its subsidiary TAP Express.
Airport Terminals and Airlines
Porto International Airport consists of a three-level, modern terminal and it is served by the following airlines: Aegean Airlines, Aigle Azur, Air Canada, Air Europa, Air France, Air Transat, Arkia, Azores Airlines, Azul, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, EasyJet, El Al, Eurowings, Finnair, Iberia, KLM, Level, Lufthansa, Luxair, Ryanair, Swiss, TAAG, TAP Portugal, Transavia, Royal Air Maroc, Turkish Airlines, United Airlines, Volotea, Vueling and Wizz Air.
Airport Services and Facilities
Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport is well equipped for the short haul passenger. It has a good range of facilities that are well organized over the three-floor terminal building - arrivals hall is situated on the ground floor and departures on the third floor.
Regarding the food and drink options, the visitors will not go hungry at the airport, and there is even a Portuguese restaurant for those who want a last (less authentic) taste of the country’s cuisine. Before security check you can find Costa Coffee, La Pausa Restaurant and self-service, Super Bock Lounge (bar with pub food) and Ola (cakes and ice cream). After security you can find Burger King, Costa Coffee, Quiosque Dos Sabores (cafe), Belight (healthy snacks), Douro Restaurant (Portuguese) and Madas beer (bar with pub food).
As for shops selection and duty free, as with most airports, the main shops are situated after security. These include a bookshop/news agent, clothing fashion shops and a well-stocked Duty Free area. In case you need to handle some cash, ATMs are located on each of the terminal floors and passengers requiring the metro, bus or taxi services will need a small amount of change. There is also a Currency Exchange in the arrivals hall and surprisingly, a full service bank - Santander.
There is free, unlimited internet throughout the airport terminal building and this can be accessed by a registering via an internet homepage. Do expect this to be slower than home broadband. Within the departures area there is a pharmacy with English speaking staff, which is open from 8:30 to 23:00. Passengers wishing to leave their luggage at the airport can do so by visiting the Information desk on the third floor departures area.
For those traveling with children, do note that there are seven sanitary and fully-equipped baby care rooms located landside and airside in the terminal. For babies aged 3 and under (or 15 kg and under), strollers are available for use, free of charge.
The airport is open 24 hours and generally you can spend the night here. However, for those who would rather prefer an uninterrupted sleep, there are hotels nearby where you can book a room and get a good night rest.
Ground Transportation
The airport is served by Line E of the Porto Metro. The service links the airport to Porto city center and by transfer in Trindade station to high-speed trains at Campanhã, and other urban centres of Greater Porto. STCP buses also link the airport and the city. There is also a bus that operates all night from Porto city center to the airport. Also there is a bus service to/from Vigo (Galicia/Spain) twice a day on weekdays, and once a day during the weekend. The GetBUS shuttle provides 50 min direct connections to the towns of Braga and Guimarães.
In addition to this public transportation option (or perhaps paying for a taxi service), you can also book a reliable door-to-door private transportation with UpTransfers, carried out with a modern fleet of fully licensed and insured vehicles, and be welcomed at the airport by an English-speaking driver - an excellent choice for traveling with style.
